Rainy Day Lessons

On this rainy Saturday our family decided to spend the day in our Entertaining Kitchen!

We had an assortment of recipes we planned to prepare!
Come on in, take a seat at the gathering spot we call the bar,
and take a view of our fun time!

Here's a list of what we made!

Apple butter (first time ever)
Whiskey Mustard Meatballs
Pistachio Salad
Cinnamon Rolls
Lemon Zucchini Bread
Elk Chili
Potato Soup

I had some good help, let me introduce you to my "little chefs"!
PV and ES
Daughter and Grandaughter

They were quite the helpers let me tell you!
PV said they were making Banana Cake in this photo!

And my talented assistant! MILTON!

Milton & I enjoy cooking together and since it
rained he was available to help out!
I know, I know! I am a lucky woman!

Ella looks pretty serious in this shot!
Papa must have had something important to say!

I will forewarn you now, we do not have step by step photos.
In fact, we don't even have final photos of some of the food.
We were too busy eating it all up and chasing a 4 yr old & 21 month old!

 Apples for our butter!
Did you know it takes ALOT Of apples to make apple butter?
The recipe we used called for 5 pounds!
This was our first time making apple butter.
Tasting will occur soon!

Milton did a great job at peeling, coring, and chopping apples today!
Then we cooked them down and put them through a blender.
Then we cooked them for what seemed like FOREVER!
But the house smelled WONDERFUL all day long!

Finished product!

Cinnamon Rolls & Lemon Zucchini Bread

The Cinnamon Roll recipe I use is here.   We really enjoy these!

The Lemon Zucchini bread recipe you can find here.

Lessons I learned this day:
Do not choose too many recipes to prepare in one day and over do it!
If you do over do it, coax your partner into rubbing your feet that evening!
Little girl messes aren't really a big deal when you see how happy they are to be with you!
We need another one of these for our kitchen! (Fyi, when the word is different colored, click on it)
Spending time together creating something makes for great memories!
Sometimes your husband is right... even in the kitchen! :)

Do you have any fun experiences in the kitchen you care to share with us?  We would love to hear them!

Do you have a recipe you like to recommend to me? I love to cook and welcome all ideas!

Thanks for visiting!

Julie

  3. It all sounded delish! I too have to remind myself not to take on too many recipes before the county fair with 2 boys doing the baking.
